Corneal collagen cross-linking for Terrien marginal degeneration.

چکیده
PURPOSE To report the long-term clinical outcome of a patient diagnosed as having Terrien marginal degeneration (TMD) who was subjected to corneal collagen cross-linking (CXL) with ultraviolet-A and riboflavin in both eyes. METHODS Topographical changes were assessed by high-resolution Scheimpflug imaging and anterior segment optical coherence tomography. Eccentric epithelium-off CXL was performed in both eyes while protecting the corneal limbus. Irradiation was performed with a fluence of 5.4 J/cm(2), using 3 mW/cm(2) for 30 minutes. RESULTS Five years of postoperative follow-up showed regression of the keratometric values, a local thickening of the corneal stroma, and bilateral improvement of corrected distance visual acuity. CONCLUSIONS CXL may arrest progression in TMD and even reverse the catabolic process in the corneal stroma. CXL might represent an alternative therapeutic approach for the management of TMD.

Collagen cross-linking in the treatment of pellucid marginal degeneration
Pellucid marginal degeneration (PMD) is an uncommon cause of inferior peripheral corneal thinning disorder, characterized by irregular astigmatism. We analyzed a case of bilateral PMD patient and treated one eye with corneal collagen cross-linking (CXL) therapy. Corneal topography was characteristic for PMD. Visual acuity, slitlamp examinations, tonometry, and corneal thickness were observed. S...
متن کاملcollagen cross - linking for Pellucid Marginal degeneration
Pellucid marginal degeneration (PMD) is a rare progressive condition resulting in inferior corneal thinning and astigmatism. Alongside keratoconus and keratoglobus, it is considered one of noninflammatory corneal ectasias. The focus of corneal thinning is greatest inferiorly resulting in diminished visual acuity and overall reduction in visual quality. Traditional methods of treatment or diseas...
متن کاملIatrogenic corneal perforation in Terrien Marginal Degeneration.
This case report is about a rare disease with unusual presentation. Failure to recognise atypical presentation may lead to error in managing the patient and cause disastrous complications. Here we highlight a case of Terrien Marginal Degeneration in both eyes with atypical presentation; namely pseudopterygium. A 22 year old man was referred to our centre for iatrogenic right eye corneal perfora...
متن کاملCross-Linking of Corneal Collagen with UVA and Riboflavin for the Treatment of Corneal Disease
Introduction In recent years, reduced corneal biomechanics have been identified as an important element in the pathogenesis of various corneal diseases. The biomechanical characteristics of a connective tissue such as strength and resistance against mechanical stress are indispensable prerequisites to maintain regular shape and function of that tissue. Intraand intermolecular cross-links betwee...

Purpose. To report the long-term results of corneal collagen cross-linking (CXL) with riboflavin and ultraviolet-A irradiation in 4 eyes of 2 patients affected by pellucid marginal degeneration (PMD). Methods. This study involved the retrospective analysis of 4 eyes of 2 patients with PMD that underwent CXL treatment. Of the eyes, three had only CXL treatment and one had CXL treatment after an ...
